An eTip Integration With Toast Digitizes Gratuities for Restaurant Servers

The gratuity platform for restaurants, eTip Inc., said it has integrated with the Toast Partner Ecosystem, allowing restaurants using Toast’s POS system to automate tip calculations and send tip sums directly to workers’ bank accounts.

With the integration, eTip says it has widened its presence in the restaurant business with such features as gratuity technology and instant payouts. Toast serves more than 160,000 locations, including roughly 20% of small and independent restaurants in the U.S., according to industry estimates.

The technology from eTip helps managers replace manual calculations for employee tips, including processes for distribution and reconciliation, according to the San Francisco-based company. With the integration, eTip can access Toast sales data to make calculations related to tips, including split payments. The final sums can be electronically deposited in employees’ bank accounts, according to eTip.

“Our integration with Toast is designed to automate one of the most time-consuming back-office processes while giving employees faster access to the money they’ve earned,” says Nicolas Cassis, co-founder and chief executive of eTip, in a statement. “Together, we’re helping restaurant operators modernize their businesses with a faster, simpler, and more streamlined experience.”

As part of its work with Toast, eTip has joined the Toast Partner Ecosystem, a network that embraces more than 200 technology companies involved in sales, customer engagement, and employee operations. Beyond digital tipping, the company offers services such as earned-wage access and on-demand payouts.

Tips at full-service restaurants served by Toast have averaged 19.3% of meal tabs for at least the last two years, according to the company’s data. At quick-service eateries, tips average 15.8%, again more or less constant since early 2024. On customer credit card payments, employees may receive tip payouts in cash at the end of a shift or see tips included in their next paycheck, according to industry information.
