Toast Adds Adyen for U.S. Processing

Toast early Monday announced it will use processing services from Adyen NV in its home U.S. market. The move builds on a relationship between the two companies that has been in effect since 2021 in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.

Boston-based Toast, a well-known provider of payments technology to restaurants and other hospitality markets, generated more than $215 billion in gross payment volume at 180,000 locations worldwide in the twelve months ended June 30, according to figures released by Adyen. Most of these are restaurants and most are located in the U.S. with back-end processing by Worldpay and JPMorgan Payments.

“Toast is adding Adyen to our U.S. payments ecosystem. It joins other existing partners,” says a Toast spokesperson.

Adyen clients include Meta, Uber, eBay, and Microsoft. The company’s most recent move was its launch in June of Adyen Agentic, a service that aims to ease the way for merchants to adopt agentic commerce. In February, Adyen introduced Personalize, a checkout service that allows merchants to customize payment options for each shopper. The Amsterdam-based company’s U.S. restaurant clients include the sub-sandwich chain Subway.

Toast last week became one of the first POS system providers to join Ask Maps, a platform from Google Inc. that enables AI commands on Google Maps for food ordering. Earlier this month, Toast reported its gross payment volume totaled $60.7 billion for the quarter ended June 30, up 22% year-over-year, helping to drive revenue up almost 28%, to $290 million.
