Western Union Taps Fiserv Exec as CEO and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 11/15/21

  • The Western Union Co. named Devin B. McGranahan as its new chief executive, replacing Hikmet Ersek, who is retiring at the end of 2021. Ersek’s 21-year Western Union career includes the past 11 years as CEO. McGranahan comes to the money-transfer giant from processor Fiserv Inc. where he most recently was an executive vice president and senior group president for its Global Business Solutions unit.
  • Passport Labs Inc., a mobile payments for parking and related services company, named Kino Becton vice president of government relations. Becton has been a congressional aide and worked in government and regulatory affairs for some large utility companies.
  • Total retail sales, excluding expenses for autos and gas, will rise 10% this Thanksgiving week (Nov. 22-28) compared to Thanksgiving week last year, and 12.2% compared to that week in 2019, according to projections by Mastercard Inc.’s SpendingPulse.
  • American Express Co. announced its 12th annual Small Business Saturday will take place Nov. 27. The campaign uses various initiatives to encourage consumers to shop at small shops, including so-called shoppable digital murals, which allow consumers to use Google Lens to shop the murals with their mobile devices.
  • Payments provider Priority Technology Holdings Inc. reported revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 30 of $132.5 million, up 22% year-over-year. Revenue for the first nine months of 2021 came to $370.9 million, a 24% increase year over year.
  • Credit union service organization PSCU said it is working with card manufacturer CPI Card Group Inc to offer cards that reduce first-use plastic by incorporating recycled plastic.
  • Fraud prevention provider NICE Actimize released its IFM-X Dark Web Intelligence service to alleviate fraud at financial service organizations.
