NCR Investigates a Ransomware Attack And Other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/17/23

  • NCR Corp. said it is investigating a ransomware incident affecting one of its data centers and its Aloha cloud-based services for the hospitality industry. Its ATM, digital banking, payments and other retail services are not impacted.
  • Huntington National Bank said it has extended Huntington ChoicePay to payments in higher education and business services. Introduced in May last year, the technology lets businesses use prepaid and closed-loop cards to make rapid disbursements to consumers.
  • In related news, the real-time payments platform Pidgin announced it will provide payments services for U.S. Century Bank, which serves a base of business owners, professionals, and entrepreneurs.
  • Some 56% of consumers have been the victim of a financial scam, according to “The Human Impact of Fraud and Financial Crime on Customer Trust in Banks,” a study released by risk-management technology provider Feedzai. The survey canvassed 4,000 consumers in the United States and United Kingdom.
  • Gaurav Khurana, formerly head of commerce payment partnerships at Meta for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region, has been appointed senior vice president of marketing at CleverCards, a payments platform serving more than 5,000 businesses.
