June Retail Sales up 11% and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 7/8/21

  • U.S. retail sales increased 11% in June from June 2020, according to the latest Mastercard Inc. SpendingPulse report. They were up 10.4% compared to June 2019. E-commerce sales increased 8.3% year-over-year and were up 95% over June 2019.
  • Payments provider Paysafe Ltd. launched a program that lets travel businesses accepting consumer payments to use a third party to hold the payments, which are released when service terms are met. The service replaces the practice of having travel businesses pay cash collateral to their acquirer against the risk of non-delivery of service.
  • Acquirer Payroc said through a partnership with Fluid Pay and IVR Technology Group it now offers touch-tone payment processing for telephone-based transactions.
  • SWIFT, the global payments network, launched a service called Payment Pre-validation, which lets banks verify the accuracy of payee account details before cross-border transactions are initiated.
  • Property-management technology provider Entrata Inc. announced it has raised $507 million in a new funding round. The company says it supports more than 20,000 apartment communities and is processing rent payments at an annual rate of more than $20 billion.
  • Blackhawk Network Holdings Inc. released an enterprise edition of its Digital Gifting service to U.S. clients with plans to expand internationally later this year.
  • Bluefin Payment Systems LLC and Alpine Security Consulting released a white paper, “Formulating a Complete Payment Data and Security Approach.”
  • Transact Campus Inc., a provider of payments services for colleges, named former FIS Inc. executive Nancy Langer chief executive, replacing David Marr, who becomes vice chairman of the board. Transact processes more than $45 billion in tuition and non-tuition payments annually for more than 1,300 institutions.
