Fiserv Rolls Out Clover Hospitality; Bluefin and Verifone Team Up to Offer Point-to-Point Encryption

Clover, Fiserv Inc.’s point-of-sale platform, has launched Clover Hospitality by BentoBox, a customized point-of-sale system for high-end restaurants.

Clover Hospitality enables restaurants to build an online presence to engage with consumers through Web sites and enable online ordering and reservations. It also includes marketing tools designed to increase customer loyalty and encourage repeat customer visits.

The POS system supports digital waitlists, as well as ticketing and merchandising. Clover Hospitality provides wait staff with visual cues to check in on the tables they are servicing, as well as create customer profiles detailing customers’ ordering history and preferences

The platform integrates front-of-house and back-of-house tasks, including back-office functions, Fiserv says.

With the launch of Clover Hospitality, which leverages technology from BentoBox, a marketing and commerce platform Fiserv acquired in 2021, the Clover platform can now support a broader range of restaurants by size, Fiserv says.

Clover Hospitality by BentoBox was developed in consultation with restaurant managers to ensure the data they receive through their point-of-sale system supports future growth, Fiserv says.

“Creating a seamlessly integrated customer experience online and offline is key to helping restaurants succeed today,” Krystle Mobayeni, senior vice president, head of restaurants for Fiserv says by email. “Diners expect consistency across platforms – whether that is a restaurant’s website, their social media or while they are dining – and diners value a personalized experience where their preferences, payment and more are remembered.”

Omnichannel capabilities, such as those supported by Clover Hospitality, “can take a dining experience from just ordinary to memorable,” Mobayeni adds.

Clover also introduced Checkless Payments, an alternative payment solution that lets diners pay using a card saved at the time they made their reservation. The app eliminates the need for diners to request the bill and wait for it to be presented.

The app is being piloted by Union Square Hospitality Group, which manages and operates a variety of restaurants, bars, and events. USHG’s portfolio includes New York City restaurants Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, and Shake Shack. USHG executive chairman and founder, Danny Meyer helped develop the idea for Checkless Payments along with former Fiserv chairman and chief executive Frank Bisignano, who left Fiserv earlier this year to become Commissioner of the Social Security Administration.

In related news, Bluefin Payment Systems LLC is partnering with terminal maker Verifone Inc. to integrate its Decryptx point-to-point encryption solution with Verifone terminals deployed by convenience and fuel-retailing merchants globally. Verifone services more than 50,000 convenience and fuel merchants.

The partnership enables convenience-store and petroleum merchants using Verifone Commander, a site controller for fuel and convenience retail environments, to deploy Decryptx without modifying existing merchant relationships or payment processes. By implementing P2PE at every payment point, merchants can reduce PCI compliance by up to 90% while maintaining payment security, Bluefin says.

“Integrating Decryptx with Verifone Commander gives fuel retailers a proven, secure PCI-validated P2PE solution that’s purpose-built for their complex environments,” Sean Gately, vice president, security solutions for Bluefin says in a statement.

Addressing queries from Digital Transactions News, Gately says Bluefin is open to working with other terminal companies as well. “Payment environments are growing more complex, especially in c-store and petro, where transactions occur across multiple endpoints, at the pump, inside the store and at unattended terminals,” he says.
