Eye on POS: Preferred Hotels Prefer Toast; NCR Voyix Expands at Stater Bros. Markets

Restaurant payments and management-software provider Toast Inc. announced Monday that it is now an endorsed vendor for luxury hotel group Preferred Hotels and Resorts, and NCR Voyix Corp. reported an expansion of its existing relationship with Southern California grocery chain Stater Bros. Markets.

Toast said it is now a member of Preferred Hotels’ Alliance Partner Program, making it a recommended provider of point-of-sale technology, including payments, hardware, and software. Preferred does not own hotels, but provides sales, marketing, revenue management, reservations, and other services to more than 625 independently-owned luxury hotels, resorts and residences in 80 countries.

The deal opens a potentially lucrative new business opportunity for Boston-based Toast, which said it will work with Preferred properties in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.

“For a brand like Preferred Hotels & Resorts, the little things matter as much in a luxury dining room as they do on a poolside patio,” Toast chief marketing officer and chief operating officer Kelly Esten said in a statement. “Toast provides the technology that enables world-class properties to manage complex, multi-concept operations across multiple countries while delivering unique, unforgettable stays for each individual guest.”

Toast won’t be alone in the payments space at Newport Beach, Calif.-based Preferred Hotels, however. Other Alliance Partner Program members include American Express Co., Deluxe Corp., and U.S. Bancorp’s Elavon payments subsidiary, according to the company’s website. A Toast spokesperson could not be reached Monday morning for comment on how much new business Toast expects from the deal.

Meanwhile, Atlanta-based NCR Voyix, a major provider of POS technology for supermarkets, other retailers, and restaurants, reported that Stater Bros. Markets is expanding its longstanding relationship with the company. Stater Bros. is signing on to the company’s newest commerce and payments services “to improve reliability, increase operational efficiency and better support evolving customer expectations,” an NCR Voyix news release says.

“The agreement provides Stater Bros. with a modern commerce foundation on the Voyix Commerce Platform, supporting mission-critical store operations while enabling flexibility as business needs evolve,” the release says. “The companies expect work to begin in the third quarter of 2026, starting with initial lab efforts, followed by phased deployments beginning in 2027.”

San Bernardino, Calif.-based Stater Bros. Markets operates nearly 170 supermarkets. Gil Salazar, the company’s senior vice president and chief information officer, said in the release that “by expanding our relationship with NCR Voyix, we are embracing modern point-of-sale and payment solutions that enhance operational efficiency today while positioning our business for future adaptability.”
