Ackroo’s Simpliconnect Deal And Other Digital Transactions News briefs from 1/4/23

  • Ackroo Inc., a point-of-sale marketing and payments platform, said it has closed on its acquisition of Simpliconnect, a cloud-based marketing service for service stations and convenience stores. Under the terms of the deal, Ackroo paid $750,000 at the close and will make six monthly cash payments of $125,000 starting July 1.
  • HelpPays, a crowdfunding platform, has integrated with payments provider KyckGlobal to access global payment networks and widen options for domestic disbursements.
  • Smart Payment Plan has changed its name to Smartpay. The company allows users to match bill payments to when they get paid.
  • Portillo’s, a fast-dining chain with 71 locations, said its drive-thru lanes will only accept credit or debit cards payments beginning Jan. 16. Cash will continue to be accepted inside, according to a WGN report.
  • The city of Stillwater, Minn., said the town has contracted with Passport for mobile parking payment. More than 800 cities, private operators, and universities now use Passport’s technology, the company said.
  • The Clearing House Payments Co. LLC named David Watson, former chief product officer at Swift, as its chief executive effective Feb. 1. He succeeds Jim Aramanda, who will retire later this month after 15 years in the position.
  • The international standards body EMVCo has appointed former Mastercard and Visa executive Oliver Manahan director of engagement and operations.
  • PayTech Women, formerly Wnet, announced its 2023 board of directors with Kelly Beatty, chief performance officer at FIS Inc., as president.
