Building on its three-year partnership with the big entertainment promoter Live Nation in Canada, Block Inc.’s Square unit said Wednesday it will roll out point-of-sale payments at the new Rogers Stadium in Toronto, starting June 29.
Rogers Stadium stands to become a major new seasonal transaction source for Square, which already serves eight other Live Nation Canada venues, along with six upcoming festivals. The new 50,000-seat outdoor facility being built by Live Nation Canada and a developer on part of a former airport is scheduled to open Sunday with Stray Kids as the headliner. The Toronto Star describes Rogers Stadium as a “concert mega-venue” and “colossus.”
Square tells Digital Transactions News that it will deploy more than 600 point-of-sale devices in the new stadium. In a news release, Block says its various point-of-sale products, including Square Register, Square Terminal, and the new Square Handheld devices, are used at Live Nation Canada venues.

“Square is the trusted payments and commerce platform for large-scale live entertainment venues around the world, and we’re excited to expand our partnership with Live Nation Canada,” Nick Molnar, global head of sales at Block, said. “Every minute saved in line is another memory made at the show.”
Meanwhile, PayPal Holdings Inc. said Wednesday that fast-food chain Taco Bell now accepts PayPal and PayPal-owned Venmo as payment options within the Taco Bell app and Web site. To boost the new option, PayPal is offering 20% cash back per week until July 31 on Taco Bell in-app purchases over $5.
To redeem the offer, Taco Bell customers must download the PayPal app and save the Taco Bell offer in the Deals tab. Then they place an order in the Taco Bell app or Web site and use PayPal to pay. Once the purchase is done, cash will be added to the customer’s PayPal account. The maximum cash back per purchase is $10.

Meanwhile, holders of the PayPal Debit Mastercard issued by The Bancorp Bank can earn an additional 5% cash back if they choose restaurants as their monthly PayPal Debit Mastercard cash-back category.
Taco Bell could generate significant volume for PayPal. A unit of Yum Brands Inc., the chain has more than 8,100 stores in the U.S. and posted worldwide sales of $17.2 billion last year, according to Yum.
