Western States Acquirers Names 2021 Leaders and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 2/5/21

  • The Western States Acquirers Association announced two new board members, Amanda Beam of Humboldt Merchant Services and Glenn Smith of NCR Corp. Also, Scott DeFazio, Fiserv Inc., was elected secretary for 2021 and Jason Putnam, The Independent Bankers Bank N.A., Deborah Camm, SafraPay, and Lane Connor, Fuzse, were reelected as president, vice president, and treasurer, respectively. New directors this year are Kate Holloway, Bankers Bank of the West, and John Newton, First American Payment Systems.
  • Diebold Nixdorf Inc. said America First Credit Union will use its Vynamic Payments software and upgrade its ATM fleet with DN Series machines.
  • Digital Check Corp., a provider of image-capture technology for payments, said it closed on its acquisition of Benchmark Technology Group Inc., a provider of cash-management automation technology. Terms were not announced.
  • Canadian bank CIBC launched CIBC Insights, a feature that provides personalized recommendations based on users’ transactions. Available in the banking app, the feature can highlight recurring payments and enables setting spending limits by category or merchant.
  • ExxonMobil announced a 6 cents per-gallon instant discount when a consumer uses an ExxonMobil smart card at the pump. Cardholders won’t have to wait for the discounts to accrue as a statement credit, the company said.
  • Bank-technology provider Nymbus Inc. said it is working with Bitcoin-technology provider Nydig to help banks offer Bitcoin products and services.
  • First Investment Bank (FiBank) in Bulgaria announced the MyFin digital wallet, which includes a Mastercard-branded digital debit card.
  • Mastercard Inc. and Oracle Corp. said they are working with governments, nonprofits, and financial-services firms around the world to help move funds to persons in need. The initiative includes funds transfers using the real-time Mastercard Send network.
  • First American Payment Systems LP named Oscar Lopez director of sales. Lopez comes to the independent sales organization from Clearent, where he led recruiting efforts. He also worked at Bank of America Merchant Services and Wells Fargo Co.
  • In related news, Certified Payments, a First American Payment Systems subsidiary, named DJ Tenorio as western regional sales manager. He most recently was regional sales manager at First National Bank of Omaha.
  • Mindbody Inc., a wellness firm and payments-technology provider, appointed Mark Dunn vice president of customer experience. He comes to the company from CDK Global LLC, a provider of digital marketing technology.
