Mobile Tax Payments up 27% and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 3/15/22

  • Payments provider ACI Worldwide Inc. said its data indicate the number of tax payments made via a mobile device has increased 27% over the same time last year, while the dollar value has climbed 40%. Tax payments via credit card are up 13%, and have increased 8% by debit card. Dollar value for both is up 21%.
  • Payments provider Shift4 Payments Inc. launched its Caring with Crypto campaign, which is using The Giving Block, a cryptocurrency-based fundraising platform, to raise more than $20 million for nonprofit organizations. Shift4 chief executive Jared Isaacman will match the first $10 million in donations. Shift4 agreed earlier this month to acquire The Giving Block for $54 million in cash plus stock and cash valued at $246 million in an earnout.
  • POSaBIT Systems Corp., a specialist in point-of-sale processing for the cannabis industry, announced it has entered the medical cannabis market in West Virginia, marking the ninth state where the company’s POS service is operational and the 16th where POSaBIT has a business presence.
  • Block Inc.’s Square point-of-sale business said it is partnering with CodeBase to offer entrepreneurs in the United Kingdom access to Square’s technology. CodeBase is a start-up incubator based in the U.K.
  • Recurly Inc., a subscription management and billing provider, launched Recurly Partner Connect, a gateway integration technology. It enables Recurly payment partners to get certified and build connections to Recurly’s API.
  • Adobe Inc. announced its Adobe Experience Cloud has several new features, including access to PayPal Holdings Inc. payment products and buy online, pick up in-store capabilities.
  • Online payments specialist Digital River Inc. appointed Krista Berry, a former Everlane, Kohl’s, and Nike executive, to its board of directors.
  • The ATM Industry Association said Carlos Siewczynski, executive vice president of business development at Coinsource, joined its board of directors. Coinsource provides Bitcoin ATM services.
