Mindbody Adds Flex, a Subscription-Payment Fitness Program

Mindbody Inc., a provider of payments services and wellness software to the health and fitness industry, is adding a direct-to-consumer virtual membership program.

Dubbed Mindbody Flex, the subscription service offers virtual access to more than 450 independent studios offering virtual fitness and wellness classes. Pricing starts at $39 per month for five classes. As the Covid-19 pandemic cruises on, many consumers have looked for online fitness options. Meanwhile, gyms have closed or faced attendance restrictions. The subscription service also may help independent wellness operators compete against similar providers, like Apple Fitness+, which launched in December and costs $9.99 a month or $79.99 annually. Mindbody says it has 1.3 million users in addition to “tens of thousands” of businesses that use the platform.

“We know people value a local and authentic connection in their fitness routine, and we look forward to delivering these personalized experiences in a more accessible and convenient way,” Mindbody chief executive Josh McCarter, said in a statement.

San Luis Obispo, Calif.-based Mindbody was acquired by Vista Equity Partners Management LLC in 2018. Mindbody says its subscription plans for its cloud-based software are available with payments, with a rate of 2.75% per transaction, though those with more than $25,000 in monthly transactions may qualify for another rate.

The company is an independent sales organization for Wells Fargo & Co.
