- Location-technology vendor Mapbox launched MapGPT, an automobile-based voice assistant incorporating generative artificial intelligence. Among its features is an ability to process payments, starting in Japan with that country’s PayPay app.
- Stop & Shop and Food Lion have adopted a mobile shopping app from Peapod Digital Labs, an e-commerce technology developer for Ahold Delhaize USA brands. The app features store coupons on its home pages and an in-store mode for scanning and payment.
- Startup companies are emerging to leverage a “boom” in account-to-account payments, including Trustly and Brite Payments, both based in Stockholm. The latter on Wednesday announced a Series A funding round of $60 million led by Dawn Capital.
- Processor Nuvei Corp. launched a business-to-business payments service in Canada that includes support for card-not-present and account-to-account transfers.
- ShipSigma, a provider of shipping technology, said it will work with Enterprise Payment Systems to bundle shipping and payments services for clients.
- Payment cards based on biometric authentication totaled 290,000 shipments last year, with 1 million expected in 2024 and 37.2 million forecast for 2028, according to ABI Research.
- Payments provider BlueSnap announced it will offer payments services in a tie-in with Retail Realm, an independent software vendor specializing in Microsoft products.
- Forter, a vendor of software for fraud management and chargeback recovery, said it will offer its products to merchants through the Shopify Plus certified app program.
- Mastercard Inc. announced new benefits for its consumer rewards credit cards, including on-demand access to online shopping and delivery through Instacart and statement credits for subscriptions to the Peacock streaming service.
- Payments technology provider Modern Treasury has joined J.P. Morgan’s Payments Partner Network, a move it says will allow companies to more easily integrate its services with the banking giant’s payments platform.
