This order probably won’t fit in the drive-thru. Processor Global Payments Inc. says it will provide more than 2,400 corporate and franchised locations of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurants with its Genius point-of-sale technology.
Announced Monday, the deal makes Global’s Genius POS systems the exclusive payment-acceptance devices in these restaurants. Both Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s are owned by CKE Restaurants Holdings Inc., a Franklin, Tenn.-based firm.
Global launched the Genius POS line in May 2025 and has added modules to it since then with a retail component released in June and an education-focused one in October.

Genius—the name was once attached to a POS terminal and software from Cayan, a merchant acquirer Global acquired in 2017—is becoming a key selling point for Global. Last week, the Atlanta-based processor said, having launched the platform in 2025, it would now exert more effort in generating a return on that investment. “Bookings have nearly doubled year-over-year. Clients are willing to pay for its differentiated capabilities,” Cameron Bready, Global chief executive, said last week.

CKE says, in a statement, it wanted a system that would unify its payments technology, but without a drop-off in quality or reliability. Carl’s Jr. restaurants are generally in the West and Southwest regions and Hardee’s are in the Midwest and Southeast.
