Visa Tap ID Tech Debuts and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 5/12/26

  • Visa Inc. said it made the first-ever use of its Tap to Confirm and Tap to Activate technology for issuing banks in collaboration with fintech Keyno and Fidelity Bank (Bahamas) Ltd. Visa said instead of using one-time passcodes, call center verification, or other processes, cardholders can confirm their identity or activate a new card by tapping their Visa card to their mobile device.
  • Buy now, pay later providers Affirm Holdings Inc. and Klarna AB separately announced their payment methods are coming to Google Gemini app and Google Search, including AI Mode. Each method will be available in Google Pay.
  • Blackhawk Network said it now supports gift card purchases for TikTok users within the TikTok app, using TikTok Shop. The service supports purchases of both digital and physical cards.
  • French processor Worldline agreed to support payments for EcoFlow, a provider of home-energy storage technology in the U.S. market as well as in the United Kingdom and Europe. In the collaboration, EcoFlow will make use of Worldline’s Global Collect service, which supports local acquiring and checkout.
  • Shoplazza, which helps online merchants create their stores, has launched Athena, aimed at letting merchants run back-office functions, including payments, using natural language.
  • Moonpay, a payments provider based on both fiat money and cryptocurrency, said it has acquired Dawn Labs, founded only last year, and with it has launched Dawn CLI, technology for trading in prediction markets. Terms were not disclosed.
  • Paymentology, a processor for card issuers, announced a $175-million investment co-led by Apis Partners and Aspirity Partners.
  • Cryptocurrency payments network Mesh said its partnership with Tempo, a payments blockchain provider, establishes Tempo as a settlement network within the Mesh system.
  • Trustmi Network Ltd. is a Nacha preferred partner for risk and fraud prevention, fraud monitoring, and account validation, said Nacha, the automated clearing house governing body.
  • Payments platform Payfinia Inc. has named Keith Riddle chief executive officer. Riddle has been serving at the company as general manager.
