Global Payments Expands Its Sports Team And Venue Portfolio

Global Payments Inc. has expanded its reach into the highly competitive world of payment processing for sports teams and entertainment venues through a deal with sports and venue-management company Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment LLC.

Global Payments will be the official payment technology provider for the Prudential Center, as well as the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League, and the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association. In addition, Global will also serve as the ticketing payment provider for the Devils, the 76ers, and the Prudential Center. In addition to processing ticket sales for the Prudential Center, Global Payments will process payments for the venue’s concessions business.

Processing for sports teams and entertainment venues has become a big part of many payment processors’ business. Processors involved in the business include Shift4 Payments Inc., Fiserv Inc. and Cantaloupe Inc..

The deal expands Global Payments’ portfolio of entertainment venues, which stands at 160 globally, including college-football stadiums in the U.S. and football stadiums in Europe. In addition, Global Payments has deals with teams in every major professional sports league in the United States, the processor says.

HBSE, which was founded in 2017, says its portfolio includes The Washington Commanders of the National Football League, Joe Gibbs Racing, and the Crystal Palace of the English Premier League, as well as the 76ers and the Devils for ticketing. The company also has “a growing presence” across Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer and youth sports, HSBE says.

“By integrating Global Payments’ technology into our venues and operations, we’re providing fans with a seamless, secure platform for every transaction while getting them back to the action quickly,” Owen Morin, chief revenue officer for partnerships at HBSE, says in a statement.
