Five Banks Link to TCH RTP Network and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 7/29/20

  • Five banks linked to The Clearing House Payments Co.’s Real Time Payments (RTP) network on a single day. The five—Dogwood State Bank, First Fidelity Bank, National Bank of Texas, Royal Bank, and Signature Bank—joined through Jack Henry & Associates Inc.’s JHA PayCenter. A Jack Henry executive said the company expects to “onboard 20 to 25 financial institutions each month” to RTP.
  • With the Covid-19 pandemic forcing Starbucks Corp. to temporarily close many of its coffee shops in recent months, U.S. transactions fell 52% year-over-year in the third quarter of fiscal 2020 ended June 28. Starbucks also said 90-day active members in its Starbucks Rewards loyalty program fell 5% to 16.3 million. Last week Starbucks announced broader payment options for U.S. and Canadian Rewards members to earn “stars,” or points.
  • Commerce and payments provider Shopify Inc. reported its total revenue climbed 97% in the second quarter compared to the second quarter of 2019, to $714.3 million, as consumers shifted to e-commerce shopping during the pandemic. Revenue in the company’s Merchant Solutions unit alone was up 148%, to $517.9 million.
  • NCR Corp. reported ATM hardware revenue fell 25% to $233 million in the second quarter from a year earlier while self-checkout and point-of-sale hardware revenue dropped 33% on a constant-currency basis to $186 million. Software revenues decreased 6% to $460 million while services revenues of $605 million were flat on a constant-currency basis.
  • Payment processor Euronet Worldwide Inc., owner of the Ria money-transfer network, said its money-transfer segment handled 25.8 million transactions in the second quarter, down 11% from 28.9 million a year earlier. Network locations rose 11% to 435,000, including the addition of more than 19,000 Oxxo locations in Mexico.
  • Remittances provider Remitly Inc. announced an $85 million funding round that will enable an expansion of its digital products.
  • Gift card and loyalty provider Factor4 LLC launched its Web Terminal Plus virtual terminal, which enables merchants to email and text gift cards directly from a Web portal.
  • MetaBank N.A., a unit of Meta Financial Group Inc. and one of the largest issuers of prepaid cards in the United States, announced it has joined the U.S. Faster Payments Council.
  • ACI Worldwide announced its ACI Payments Inc. unit has received Nacha Certified status. Nacha is the rule-making body for the nationwide automated clearing house payments network.
  • Bank of America Corp. said customers using its corporate travel and purchasing cards in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa and the Asia Pacific regions can use Apple Pay and Google Pay to make and manage card purchases.
