Fintech Plaid Notes Investments and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 9/16/19

  • Financial-technology provider Plaid Inc. disclosed that it has received “strategic investments” from both Mastercard Inc. and Visa Inc.
  • Digital payments and competition from nonbanks in payments may cost banks as much as 15% of their global payments revenue, or $280 billion, says Accenture in its “2019 Global Payments Survey.”
  • Visa said it is working with insurance companies and their banks to enable real-time claims payouts through the Visa Direct push-payments service.
  • Blockchain payments provider BitPay said it will soon support Ethereum, a programmable blockchain platform that includes the Ether cryptocurrency.
  • Travel-payments specialist CellPoint Digital said Ethiopian Airlines is using its Velocity payment platform. The airline offers Alipay acceptance and is adding WeChat Pay and KNET, a Kuwait-based payment service.

  • Mobile-commerce company Bango launched a service in conjunction with AE Tolls to enable billing of toll-road charges on monthly phone bills.
  • Mastercard and Bank of America Corp. announced the third annual Grow Your Biz contest for small-business owners.
  • Revel Systems launched Concierge Services, a program to help restaurants and retailers using Revel’s cloud-based POS system.
