FedNow To Launch in 2023 and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 2/3/21

  • The FedNow real-time payment service will launch commercially in 2023, the Federal Reserve said, narrowing the launch date from the 2023-24 timing it has projected since announcing the project in 2019.
  • Fuel retailer Valero Energy Corp. said it is working with payments-technology provider P97 Networks to launch a mobile app that allows users to activate a pump with a smart phone and pay for fuel, a car wash, and merchandise and food in-store. Valero has 5,100 U.S. sites.
  • Nice Actimize announced its New Account Fraud service to help reduce fraud loss associated with stolen and synthetic identities and other fraud schemes related to opening an account.
  • With the pandemic driving consumers to shop online, Amazon.com Inc. reported total net sales of $386 billion for 2020, up 38% from 2019.
  • Research firm Comscore said 31% of digital-equipped buyers ordered food for delivery online in the second quarter of 2020, a rise of 14 percentage points over the third quarter of 2019, underscoring the importance of online food delivery in the trend toward digital payments.
  • Point-of-sale system provider Revel Systems Inc. said a new partnership with Delphi Display Systems will enable restaurants to use a customizable drive-thru solution. They can use Delphi’s digital outdoor menu boards, order confirmation and timing systems directly in the Revel platform.
  • ParkMobile LLC launched a mobile Web app, allowing users to pay for parking in a mobile Web browser. The launch comes on top of the company’s existing mobile app and follows its introduction in December of its integration with the new Google Pay app.
  • Veon Ltd., an Internet connectivity provider, said it is working with Mastercard Inc. to increase access to digital payments in Russia and nearby markets.
  • Remittance network MoneyGram International Inc. said it has worked with Visa Inc. to launch a real-time peer-to-peer payments service in Vietnam that relies on Visa’s Visa Direct network.
  • Blackhawk Network announced the debut of its virtual prepaid Mastercard in Canada. It can be issued in amounts from $1 to $999 and spent internationally.
  • Buy now, pay later provider Klarna said it will debut a television ad featuring four versions of actor Maya Rudolph during Sunday’s Super Bowl game.
  • Atlantic-Pacific Processing Systems NV Corp. announced Tangram Interiors, which specializes in workspace furniture and design, now processes payments with it.
