Eye on POS: Elavon Builds Out POS Terminal Suite; Payroc And Ingenico Target Unattended Payments

Small businesses and unattended-payments merchants are getting some attention from point-of-sale terminal sellers with updates from Elavon and Ingenico.

First, Elavon, the acquiring arm of U.S. Bank, launched the talech Terminal, a mobile POS device that complements its talech Register, which debuted in 2022. Talech is a software developer acquired by U.S. Bank in 2019.

The new device, aimed at small businesses, is a handheld terminal that can work independent of, or in conjunction with, other in-store terminals. “Talech Terminal is a continuation of our multi-year strategy to deliver integrated hardware and software payment experiences for our small-business customers following the successful launches of talech mobile in 2020 and talech Register in 2022,” Joy Ghanekar, talech chief product officer, says in a statement.

The new talech Terminal software on the Elavon handheld point-of-sale terminal is aimed at small businesses.

In addition to payment acceptance, the device and the talech software offers reporting features, credit card surcharge management, inventory management, and employee-management support. Elavon provides payment processing and related services to more than 1.3 million clients in the U.S., Canada, and Europe, the company says.

In related news, Tinley Park, Ill.-based Payroc says it is launching the Ingenico Self/3000 in conjunction with device maker Ingenico to cater to the unattended and self-service payments market.

Designed for merchant categories such as vending, car washes, and electric-vehicle charging stations, the Self/3000 accepts multiple payment types indoor and outdoor settings. It will be available from Payroc exclusively through Unattended Card Payments Inc., a Las Vegas-based POS equipment distributor. The terminal is already certified on Payroc’s platform.
