Payroc Launches Tap to Phone And Strengthens Its Hand in Unattended Payments

Payroc LLC has partnered with wireless-network platform provider Bleu to launch tap-to-phone payments for Android and iOS devices in the United States. Merchants will be able to accept payments using a smart phone or tablet device.

The rollout of tap-to-phone technology is expected to help merchants meet consumers’ evolving expectations for simpler, faster digital experiences at the point-of-sale, according to Payroc.

“We believe tap-to-phone is the biggest shift in acceptance technology in decades. It empowers merchants and customers with the ability to choose how they pay and want to get paid with the device they already have in their hands,” Bleu president and chief executive Sesie Bonsi says in a statement. “We are very excited about our partnership with Payroc as a leader in global payment acceptance.”

In addition to its deal with Bleu, Payroc announced a partnership with UIC Payworld Inc. to deliver joint solutions in the unattended payments market. The Tinley Park, Ill.-based acquirer and processor will leverage its Level 3 EMV certification—which validates the device and the software running on it are compliant with card-network acceptance regulations—to offer UIC’s unattended-payment applications on its POS hardware, including its flagship Bezel 8 device.

Fremont, Calif-based UIC has carved out a strong presence in the unattended-payments market in such verticals as parking, laundry, car washes, and electric-vehicle charging stations, where it has a more than 85% share of the market.

“Payroc’s latest certification with UIC demonstrates our commitment to being the market-leading platform for unattended payments,” Conn Byrne, senior vice president of fintech integrated payments for Payroc, says in a statement. “Flexibility is key to our partners. This partnership further enhances the unattended-hardware options available to ISVs utilizing our platform.”

Payroc processes more than $80 billion in transaction volume annually for more than 151,000 merchants.
