Coinbase Stock Soars on Opening Day and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/15/21

  • On its first day of trading as a public company, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Global Inc. saw its stock finish at $328.28 per share after starting the day at $381 and rising as high as $429.54 on the Nasdaq. The day’s activity left Coinbase with a valuation of $85 billion on a diluted basis, making it the most valuable financial exchange in the country.
  • Pineapple Payments said it is supporting eServices Technology, which specializes in online payments for emergency medical services, fire, air medical, and public sector entities, as it expands into new verticals. Pineapple, which is being acquired by Fiserv Inc., already supported eServices in its primary markets.
  • Forter Inc., a provider of technology for e-commerce fraud prevention, said it is partnering with Flutterwave, an Africa-based payments-technology firm, to help identify fraudsters and increase transaction approvals.
  • PayJunction released a remote billing and invoicing feature to its application programming interface code, making it easier for software developers to integrate the services into their applications.
  • Cardtronics plc has agreed to support acceptance of the Ahead Visa debit card from digital-banking platform Ahead Financials through Cardtronics’ Allpoint ATM network. Cardtronics was acquired earlier this year by NCR Corp. in a deal expected to close midyear.
  • Online fraud prevention specialist Signifyd said it raised $205 million in a Series E funding round led by Owl Rock Capital.
  • Mastercard Inc. promoted Tim Murphy to the newly-created position of chief administrative officer. A 21-year Mastercard employee, Murphy had been general counsel.
  • Payment software provider linked2pay said Tim McKenna was appointed an independent member of the Transmodus Corp. board of directors. Transmodus is the parent company of linked2pay.
  • Chargeback Gurus said Sebastian Robins will lead its dispute intelligence team. Robins’ experience includes work at Visa International, Citibank, Unibanco, Global Collect, and Daftcode.
  • Payment card program manager Alliance Data Systems Corp. named Perry Beberman executive vice president and chief financial officer, succeeding Tim King, who resigned April 13. Beberman was formerly with Bank of America Corp.
  • Parking-app provider Passport Labs Inc. named Chris Matton general counsel. Most recently, Matton was with Bandwidth Inc.
