Transaction Network Services Inc., an infrastructure-as-a-service provider that connects businesses to point-of-sale terminals and ATMs, has launched TNSPay SmartRoute, a cloud-based transaction-routing solution that allows merchants, processors, and acquirers to define and adjust routing rules in real time.
Users can decide how to route a transaction based on specific criteria, such as geography, cost-efficiency, processor performance, or planned maintenance.
TNS developed the service to reduce the fallout from network outages or the degradation in service that can hinder the customer experience, the company says.

TNSPay SmartRoute also automates failover, a process in which transactions are redirected to a backup processor or network when the primary processor or network experiences downtime or connectivity issues. As a result, users are ensured uninterrupted payment acceptance across data centers and processors during a disruptive incident, preventing lost revenue, while maintaining the integrity of the customer experience, TNS says.
End users can also limit access to the solution based on an employee’s role within the company. They can also enable multi-factor authentication for access to the system. In addition, the solution provides end-to-end audit trails to track each transaction.
“With TNSPay SmartRoute, we’re empowering our customers to take full control of their payment routing, dynamically optimizing for performance, cost and availability – all through one secure platform,” says Austin Herrington, senior director, product management, connect portfolio, TNS Payments Market, in a statement. “This marks a … step forward in resilience and agility for any organization operating across multiple endpoints.”
