9% of Businesses Have Paid a Ransom and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 10/8/21

  • A September survey of 850 information-technology professionals around the world by security-software provider Hornetsecurity Group found more than 9% saying their organization had paid a ransom to recover data after a ransomware attack. Some 15.2% said their organizations don’t perform regular data backups.
  • Parkmobile LLC, whose mobile app enables reservations and payment for parking, said it will provide its service for more than 600 parking spaces in the City of Leavenworth, Wash. ParkMobile says its app is used by 27 million consumers throughout North America. In June, EasyPark Group, a Stockholm-based provider of digital parking services, closed on its acquisition of the Park Now Group, which includes Atlanta-based ParkMobile.
  • EoStar, a provider of software for wholesale food and beverage distribution, said it has incorporated in its mobile app check capture capability supported by Financial Transmission Network Inc.
  • Payments-technology provider Blackhawk Network Holdings Inc. said it is collaborating with Magstar Inc., a provider of software for mid-size retailers, to ease adoption of digital wallets among merchants.
  • Fobi AI Inc. announced an agreement to acquire PassWallet, an app that helps manage Wallet passes on Android phones for movies, transit, airlines, museums, concerts, and other venues, for 888,000 euros ($1.03 million) in cash and stock.
  • Callsign Inc., a specialist in behavioral biometrics, said Visa Inc. will introduce its technology to financial institutions, payment service providers, and merchants in Europe. Callsign’s technology helps identify users and establish whether they are permitted to use services they are requesting.
  • Credit union service organization PSCU launched the PSCU My Card Manager mobile app and Web site that provides cardholders with more controls of their reloadable prepaid cards.
  • Payments-technology provider i2c Inc. said it is working with Bancredito International Bank & Trust Corp. to support features on the American Express Black Card in Puerto Rico.
