- Wells Fargo & Co. launched cardless cash access at its ATMs using near-field communication technology. Consumers using the bank’s mobile app hold an NFC-equipped smart phone near an NFC-enabled ATM after opening and authenticating the bank app. The ATM then prompts for a PIN entry to complete the transaction. Wells said approximately 5,000 of its 13,000 ATMs are NFC-equipped, and it expects to update the remainder to the technology by 2019. Since March, it has offered cardless cash access using a one-time access code within the Wells banking app.
- GlobalOnePay, a unit of Pivotal Payments, announced the launch of its automated clearing house payment-processing service.
- Independent sales organization Payscape said it is now providing payment-gateway services to users of VerticalRent, software that offers tenant screening and rental-property management.
- ACI Worldwide Inc. launched its UP Real-Time Payment Solution, a service that allows financial institutions to address aspects of real-time payments.
- Merchant acquirer Cayan announced its Genius Countertop point-of-sale service received PCI Security Standards Council validation as a certified point-to-point encryption service.
- Unattended-payments specialist USA Technologies Inc. announced vending operator Berkshire Food Inc. will install 1,000 USAT ePort G10-S devices to machines in addition to the 1,500 already in the field.
- Furnished-apartment provider Stayawhile launched Stayabit, a digital currency that can be used to pay for rent. The token can help the company’s international customers pay for apartments.
- Payment Rails, a company specializing in payouts, announced that Scott Thompson, former president of PayPal Holdings Inc., became an investor in the company and a board advisor.
- Ripple Labs Inc. said more than 100 financial institutions have joined its enterprise blockchain network RippleNet.
- Mastercard Inc. said Gary Flood, president of global products and solutions, is leaving the company Dec. 31. Flood has worked at the card network since 1986.
