Zelle Signups Growing and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/27/20

  • Early Warning Services LLC said enrollments in its Zelle peer-to-peer payments network since early March are increasing at “more than double-digit rates above average” as stay-at-home users deploy the service to reimburse neighbors for groceries and canceled events and send money to friends and relatives who need cash. Some 837 financial institutions have now contracted to support Zelle, with more than half of those now processing transactions, the company said.
  • system glitch over the weekend prevented some users of Apple Pay from paying their Apple Card bill, locking and unlocking their physical Apple Card, requesting a new or replacement card, or requesting a new card number. A system update from Apple Inc. on Saturday indicated the issue had been resolved.
  • Payments provider 2Checkout released some March sales data that estimated a 15% increase in online sales of digital goods globally because of the Covid-19 lockdown.
  • Yardi Systems Inc., a developer of rent-payment and property-management software, launched an update to its Breeze tool to assist property managers working remotely owing to social-distancing measures. Features include online applications, payments, and maintenance.
  • Payment gateway NMI and Miura Systems, a point-of-sale equipment maker, said the Miura M020 device received accreditation from processor Elavon Inc.
  • Automobile dealership Leith introduced Leith Direct, which allows consumers to buy a car online. Capabilities include financing, payment, trade value, selection of options, and delivery.
  • Financial Data Exchange LLC announced Computer Services Inc., Interac Corp., PayPal Holdings Inc., and 19 other companies joined during the first quarter, bringing to 103 the number of organizations that are now members. FDX, which was founded in 2018, is dedicated to developing a standard for secure consumer and business access to financial data.
  • Payments provider Volante Technologies Inc. joined the U.S. Faster Payments Council as a voting member in the Technology Providers segment.
