WooCommerce Payments Debuts and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 5/19/20

  • E-commerce facilitator WooCommerce launched WooCommerce Payments to provide checkout and payments-management capability for merchants on its platform. Transaction fees start at 2.9% plus 30 cents for U.S.-issued cards.
  • ACI Worldwide Inc. announced Wundr Group Ltd., a retail payments platform specializing in cross-border transactions, will use ACI’s UP eCommerce Payments technology, which links to card-transaction acquirers and alternative-payment methods. The move will facilitate cross-border payment processing and local acquiring for Wundr, ACI says.
  • While travel-sector payments remain “significantly lower” than they were before the Covid-19 outbreak, buy-now, pay-later payments provider Klarna Bank AB said its data show ticket sales for travel and events are beginning to recover. Daily airline transactions through the Klarna app recently were up 26% week-over-week, the company reported.
  • Transaction Network Services Inc. launched TNSConnect Cloud, which allows merchant processors to link point-of-sale devices to cloud-based terminal-driving hosts.
  • Financial institutions sustained $16.9 billion in fraud losses on consumer accounts last year, up 15% from 2018, even though fraud instances fell 10% to 13 million, according to the 2020 Identity Fraud Report from Javelin Strategy & Research.
  • Early Warning Services LLC, provider of the Zelle person-to-person payments service, said it is working with the non-profit Older Adults Technology Services Inc. to provide free e-learning classes through OATS’s Senior Planet training program. The interactive classes will cover digital banking, including the use of P2P payments.
  • Online ticketing platform provider SimpleTix Corp. said it is getting new business from drive-in theaters concerned about social distancing for customers; SimpleTix provides theaters with Quick Response code-based contactless payments.
  • Gift card and loyalty services provider Factor4 LLC said its Gift Plus App is now available for download in Fiserv Inc.’s Clover App Market.
