Walmart Adding Contactless Payment Acceptance and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 8/21/26

  • Walmart Inc. said it will add contactless payments to point-of-sale terminals at select Walmart and Sam’s Club stores and plans to make it available at U.S. locations by the end of 2026. The tap-and-pay method will come to its fuel stations by mid-2027. Walmart is among the most recent of the larger retailers to add contactless payment acceptance, which is based on NFC technology.
  • ACI Worldwide Inc. said its acquiring platform will support Inter Pag, the merchant-acquiring unit of Banco Inter in Brazil. Inter Pag processes for more than 100,000 small and medium-size merchants.
  • Conduent Inc., a government-payments processor, said it is widening its AI capabilities in a collaboration with Google Cloud, including an integration of Google’s Gemini AI platform.
  • Xsolla, a payments processor for transactions within video games, said it has renewed its Diamond partnership for 2027 with GDC Festival of Gaming, an event for professional video game developers. The event is set for March 1 to March 5 in San Francisco.
