Adyen Readies for Agentic Commerce with Adyen Agentic

Count processor Adyen N.V. as another payments company preparing for the expected growth in agentic commerce. Its launch of Adyen Agentic will make it easier for merchants on the platform to incorporate agentic commerce into their sales channels, Adyen says.

With the foundations of agentic commerce which IBM defines as a retail model where autonomous AI agents research products, compare prices, and complete transactions on behalf of consumers, being created now—Adyen says its suite of application programming interface codes will make it possible for enterprises to sell through conversational AI platforms without having to restructure their commerce systems for the channel.

Among the elements in Adyen Agentic are Agentic Feed, a service that shares real-time catalog, pricing, and availability data across conversational AI environments, and Agentic Cart, a layer that connects a merchant’s existing checkout, tax, fulfillment, and order-management systems to these environments. Agentic Payments is the third element. This payments and fraud layer for agent-led transactions enables authentication, token portability, merchant-of-record preservation, and risk management.

Currently, Adyen Agentic is compatible with Meta’s AI checkout with more anticipated. Meta is the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and other social-media services.

Other participants include American Express Co., Mastercard Inc., Salesforce, and Visa Inc. Participating merchants include ESW, Scheels, Sézane, and SharkNinja.

“We believe the future of agentic commerce should be open, so we intentionally designed Adyen Agentic to help retailers integrate once and participate across evolving platforms, protocols, and experiences—without having to bet on which ecosystems ultimately win,” Karan Katyal, Adyen global head of agentic commerce, says in a statement.

Adyen, which entered the North American market in 2010, also says fashion retailer Aritzia will use its payment-processing service in its 140 stores, on its North American websites, and in its mobile app.
