Ticketing’s Rebound And Other Digital Transactions News Briefs From 8/24/20

  • Transaction volumes globally for digital tickets for air and rail travel and for events will reach 12.7 billion this year and will pass pre-Covid levels by 2022 at 32 billion, according to a report from Juniper Research. Transportation ticketing, however, is recovering more slowly, with transaction values not expected to reach pre-Covid levels before 2024.
  • Point-of-sale lender Afterpay Inc. said it is expanding into Europe with an agreement to acquire Pagantis SAU and PMT Technology SLU from NBQ Corporate SLU. Pagantis specializes in payment services for online merchants in Spain, France, and Italy. NBQ will receive a minimum of 50 million euros ($59.2 million) with 5 million euros ($5.9 million) payable at completion of the acquisition and a further 45 million euros ($53.2 million) payable three years after completion of the agreement.
  • Payments provider Payroc LLC appointed Kevin Hodge its chief financial officer. Hodges was executive vice president and chief financial officer at EVO Payments and held various senior positions at Global Payments Inc.
  • Credit union service organization PSCU said cash withdrawals at ATMs are down 21.2% for the week ending Aug. 16, compared to the week ending Aug. 18, 2019. PSCU publishes a weekly report on consumer payment trends from data provided by its member credit unions.
  • Digital card services platform Ondot Systems Inc. has hired additional staff for its expansion into Europe.
  • NextGen Shopping Inc.’s digital coupon platform CouponFollow released a report that 48% of consumers have used buy-online, pick-up-in store services since the Covid-19 pandemic’s start in mid-March. It polled more than 1,100 U.S. adults.
