Sysnet Acquires ControlScan Unit and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 12/2/20

  • Sysnet Global Solutions said it acquired the Managed Complication Solutions division of ControlScan Inc. With the acquisition, Sysnet said almost 4 million small and mid-size businesses and payment processing companies use its services. Terms were not disclosed.
  • Fido Merchant Services, a United Kingdom-based payment gateway and merchant services provider, is embarking on an expansion into the United States.
  • The Town of Natick, Mass., has agreed to allow its citizens to use a parking-payment app from Passport Labs Inc., which says it has agreements with more than 1,000 cities, universities, and agencies in the United States and Canada.
  • In related news, parking app provider ParkHub Inc. has collaborated with point-of-sale technology provider Vend Ltd. to enable contactless payment at gated facilities, beginning with facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Boston areas.
  • ConnexPay LLC announced it has received additional funding from existing investors as well as from F-Prime Capital, a venture-capital firm affiliated with FMR LLC, the parent company of Fidelity Investments. The unspecified funding round brings total funding for the company, which specializes in technology allowing marketplaces to collect consumer payments on behalf of sellers, to $15 million.
  • Nacha, the governing body for the United States’ automated clearing house network, has published “The Story of Payments—How the Industrialization of Trust Created the Modern Payments System,” by industry veterans Richard Oliver and George Warfel, the latter of whom is a former columnist for Digital Transactions magazine.
  • In related news, industry consultancy Glenbrook Partners announced the publication of “Global Payments—And the Fintech Innovations That Are Changing the Industry,” by Glenbrook co-founder Carol Coye Benson.
  • Payments provider Blackhawk Network introduced technology intended to ease merchants’ ability to let customers add cash to a digital wallet or offer digital gift cards.
  • Transaction Network Services Inc. said new survey data found that 65% of consumers prefer to use pay-at-the-pump technology that is EMV compliant.
  • TCF National Bank has contracted for instant issuance technology from Entrust Corp. for more than 465 branches in the Midwest.
  • Mercator Advisory Group released its “How Mobile Order and Pay Provides a Lifeline for Restaurants and Retailers During Covid-19” report.
  • USA Technologies Inc. named Ravi Venkatesan to the newly-created chief technology officer position. Venkatesan most recently was head of innovation at Bakkt, a digital assets platform.
  • Cryptocurrency services provider BitPay Inc. announced Jagruti Solanki will be its chief financial officer and Shaun Worley product vice president. Solanki comes from Aprio LLP, a specialist in technology and blockchain companies. Worley worked at Swivel, a digital office platform.
