Square Lands Nationals Deal and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 3/27/19

  • Square Inc. said concession sellers at the Washington Nationals’ ballpark will be equipped with the Square Terminal device to process fans’ food-and-drink orders in their seats. Fans will also be able to use Square’s Caviar app to order food from concession stands. The Major League Baseball season starts Thursday.
  • The Western Union Co. said it is working with financial-services firm AirPak to offer international digital money transfers through westernunion.com in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
  • In related news, Western Union and ACI Worldwide announced the Federal Trade Commission has granted early termination of the waiting period related to ACI’s previously announced acquisition of Western Union’s Speedpay bill-payment service. The parties expect the $750 million deal to close early in the second quarter.
  • MineralTree, a provider of payments-automation software, said it has closed a $50-million equity investment led by private-equity firm Great Hill Partners.
  • Merchant processor Priority Technology Holdings Inc. said it and payments provider Yapstone Inc. have created a partnership with a Priority subsidiary, Priority Real Estate Technology, in which Priority will be the majority owner and provide day-to-day management, marketing, and sales support. Yapstone will provide credit and debit card processing, technology, and property-management contracts as well as customer relationships in the rental, storage, and dues markets. The businesses Yapstone is contributing amount to less than 10% of the partnership’s overall revenue.
  • ATM network owner and manager Cardtronics plc said it will acquire and manage Security Service Federal Credit Union’s entire fleet of nearly 120 ATMs in Texas, Colorado, and Utah.
  • Financial-technology provider Hypur Inc. said the Terrasana Cannabis Co., a medical-marijuana dispensary in Ohio, will use its mobile app to enable customers to make electronic payments from their bank accounts.
  • Bluefin Payment Systems LLC named Kelley Castell chief operating officer. Castell had been COO at Oasis Outsourcing, and worked at First Data Corp.
