Square Debuts in Ireland and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/9/21

  • Square Inc. entered the acquiring market in Ireland with its Early Access Program, which offers small and medium-size merchants what the company calls exclusive access to Square technology. Square expects to launch its technology generally in Ireland later this year.
  • Transact Holdings Inc., a specialist in payments technology for college campuses, said its encryption features comply with a new rule from Nacha that requires bank account numbers used for automated clearing house transactions be rendered unreadable when stored electronically. Phase 1 of the rule takes effect June 30. Nacha is the governing body for the ACH.
  • Biometric card manufacturer Fingerprint Cards AB said it is expanding with new regional offices in China and Switzerland, plus a distribution hub in Singapore. The company, based in Sweden, last week confirmed its card technology featuring a fingerprint sensor has complied with specifications from Mastercard Inc.
  • A new report from Experian plc found that 34% of consumers are worried about online privacy compared to 29% pre-pandemic. Experian’s 5th annual Global Identity and Fraud Report surveyed more than 9,000 consumers and more than 2,700 business across 10 countries.
  • Former Transfirst, TSYS, and Chase executive Mike Peters has joined the advisory board of Acies AI Ltd., a provider of business-intelligence technology for merchants.
