Rite Aid Adds Afterpay BNPL and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 5/3/22

  • Buy now, pay later provider Afterpay said retailer Rite Aid now accepts the installment payment option online and intends to offer it in-store in coming months.
  • MoneyGram International Inc. rebutted claims by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that the company is a “repeat offender” with respect to “consumer harm,” citing the fact that the bureau has received 351 complaints for failing to deliver money when promised over the past nine years, or 0.0001% of the more than 325 million MoneyGram transactions covered by the Remittance Rule that applies to money transfers sent from the United States to other countries.
  • Socket Mobile Inc. said its S550 cordless reader has been the first such cordless device to be certified by the NFC Forum. The $269 device is aimed at loyalty, closed-loop payments, and age-verification applications.
  • The global buy now, pay later market may grow to $39.41 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 26% from 2022 through 2030, according to a report from Grand View Research.
  • Camper & Nicholsons, a seller of yachts, said it is accepting cryptocurrency on BitPay’s platform. The company will receive settlement next day in local fiat currency, including dollars and euros.
  • Under a new collaboration, financial-institution clients of Fiserv Inc. will be able to access The Clearing House Payments Co.’s Real Time Payments (RTP) network via Fiserv’s NOW gateway.
  • CPI Card Group Inc. said FB Financial Corp.’s First Bank subsidiary is using CPI’s Card@Once instant issuing service. Forty-seven card printers were installed across the bank’s locations.
  • Early Warning Services LLC launched Verify Identity, a synthetic identity fraud detection service for financial services organizations, mobile network providers, corporations, and government entities.
  • Fraud prevention firm ThetaRay said Qolo, an omnichannel payments platform, will use ThetaRay’s Sonar anti-money laundering service.
  • Restaurant technology provider PAR Technology Corp. named Seth Tomko chief marketing officer. Most recently, Tomko held the same position at TouchBistro. PAR also named Candice Levy senior vice president of human resources. She held a similar position at Enthusiast Gaming prior.
