Publix Adding Payments to App and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 6/10/19

  • Publix Super Markets Inc. is adding a payments feature to its mobile app, first with a version for iOS devices and later for Android devices, according to The Ledger in Lakeland, Fla. Publix has 1,218 grocery stores in the Southeast, including 800 in Florida.
  • Amazon.com and Synchrony Financial launched the Amazon Credit Builder secured credit card. The private-label card has no annual fee and offers benefits to Amazon Prime members.
  • Unisys Corp. agreed to integrate payment-processing capability from PayCargo LLC into its Digistics cargo software. PayCargo provides electronic invoicing and settlement technology for the shipping industry.
  • MoneyGram International Inc. launched a service with Canada Post that allows consumers to initiate a transfer online at MoneyGram and then fund it at any of 5,200 Canada Post locations.
  • Parking-payments provider PayByPhone said consumers can use Amazon.com Inc.’s Echo Auto service to pay for parking via an Alexa voice-assistant skill.
  • Juniper Research forecasted that international digital remittances will reach $525 billion in value by 2024, up from an estimated $332 billion in 2019. The research firm also expects a 102% increase in the value of mobile international transfers by 2024.
  • Glance Technologies Inc. named Gary Zhang chief technology officer. Zhang’s career includes stints at many Fortune 500 companies.
