Pilot Turns to NCR Voyix in a POS Modernization Move

Pilot Travel Centers LLC, with more than 900 locations in 44 states and five Canadian provinces, will adopt point-of-sale technology from NCR Voyix Corp. at all of its stores under a five-year exclusive agreement, the Atlanta-based technology company announced early Thursday.

Pilot, known for its off-highway fueling centers, and NCR Voyix are acting on an expansion of an existing agreement between the companies, according to the announcement. Pilot says its stations, often branded as Pilot Flying J, attract some 1.2 million truckers and retail customers daily.

The chain says it is counting on the new technology to meet demands it sees developing as customer expectations emerge. The agreement with NCR Voyix, indeed, is part of an effort to simplify and modernize Pilot’s “tech stack,” according to Andy Lupo, the company’s chief technology officer. “For a network of our size, the job is to keep stores running smoothly while making meaningful improvements fast,” he says in an announcement of the deal.

The new agreement also portends a “transformation” of Pilot’s “point-of-sale system and fuel technology” according to Nick East, chief product officer at NCR Voyix, who is also quoted in the announcement. The deal offers other potential advantages, according to the parties, including deployment of the Voyix  POS and Fuel unit on the Voyix Commerce Platform, a move expected to enable steady improvement in performance over time, the company says, as well as reinforce uptime and security.

NCR Voyix emerged in October 2023 as it split off from NCR Corp., with businesses in point of sale as well as banking. It sold its digital-banking business in 2024 to Veritas Capital for $2.45 billion. Its sister company, NCR Atleos, is an ATM manufacturer.

NCR Voyix’s deal with Pilot follows the news in February that the technology company has agreed to upgrade POS systems for 7-Eleven Philippines, a convenience-store operator with more than 4,500 locations.
