On The Fly Taps BYOD for a New Hospitality POS Product

On The Fly POS’s latest product, called Ground Control, is making it easier for hospitality merchants to use their own devices for ordering and table management.

The new app, with versions for both iOS and Android mobile devices, enables merchants to use their own hardware with an integrated software app for order placement and table management.

The integration enables inputs from the mobile devices running Ground Control to work with point-of-sale terminals, kiosks, online ordering, and Quick Response code ordering.

Future enhancements include adding additional payment methods, including contactless payments, invoicing, and QR codes on screen. “This will truly make Ground Control a … stand-alone payment device,” Alfredo Cubillos, On The Fly POS chief technical officer, says in a statement.

Doral, Fla.-based On The Fly POS also sells POS systems and terminals. It markets displays to indicate order status, and markets digital menu boards and kitchen-display systems. Earlier this year, On The Fly POS completed an integration with gift card technology provider Factor4 LLC. In 2021, On The Fly POS added a biometric identity-verification technology to its platform.

Just as restaurant competition is fierce—47% of operators expected competition to be more intense in 2023 than in 2022, according to the National Restaurant Association—so it is for businesses selling hospitality POS systems. Some, such as Shift4 Payments Inc. seek restaurants and stadiums. While others, such as Presto Automation Inc., incorporate voice ordering to distinguish their products.
