Many Not Ready for Agentic Commerce and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 5/28/26

  • Some 73% of online merchants are not ready for AI agents, while AI agents are at least in some cases recommending “unreliable merchants,” according to research from Ballerine, a specialist in merchant risk and compliance. The company conducted 47 interviews among card networks, acquirers, merchants, AI platforms, and payment service providers.
  • Mastercard Transaction Services, a unit of the major card network, has received a BitLicense from the New York State Department of Financial Services. The license covers activities related to digital currencies, including stablecoins and tokenized deposits.
  • Payments provider Finix said it and Cybersource, a unit of Visa Inc., completed an integration that enables merchants to use Cybersource’s gateway and plugin ecosystem with Finix’s payments platform.
  • Weave Communications Inc. announced it has added AI capability to its patient-payments platform through Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.
  • Block Inc.’s Square point-of-sale platform is working with business lender Homegrown in a pilot program to offer $24 million in capital to Square sellers operating at least two locations and looking to add more.
  • Payments platform Adyen NV said its Capital unit is supporting business loans for leisure and attractions providers through a partnership with Roller, a provider of venue-management technology.
  • Financial services advisory firm Keynova Group released its 2026 Online Credit Card Scorecard that found Bank of America Corp. and U.S. Bank tied for first place in the evaluation of 10 U.S. credit card issuers.
  • Toast Inc. released its “The Regulars Report 2026: New Data on Restaurant Loyalty & Retention” report, completed in conjunction with American Express Co.’s Resy, that found 52% of regulars were parties of two.
  • Gift card specialist Tillo said GOVX, an online marketplace for military, first responders, emergency medical professionals, and other government personnel, will adopt Tillo’s digital gift card services for its 12 million members.
  • Fraud prevention services company DataVisor named Patrick Harr chief executive. Harr most recently was chief executive at SlashNext. DataVisor cofounder Yinglian Xie moves into the president of technology and AI role.
