Kroger Lifts Visa Ban and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 10/30/19

  • The Kroger Co. lifted its acceptance ban on Visa credit cards at its Smith’s Food & Drug and Foods Co subsidiaries, according to news reports. Kroger, citing what it called high acceptance costs, first banned the cards at its small Foods Co chain in August 2018 and extended it to the larger Smith’s operation in March. Company statements were unavailable Wednesday morning.
  • Payment gateway and e-commerce services provider BlueSnap Inc. said it acquired Armatic Technologies Inc., a provider of accounts-receivable and invoice-automation systems. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
  • Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission that “a third party acquired email and password information from a source outside of the company’s systems,” which was used to access less than 1% of Bed Bath & Beyond’s online customer accounts. The retailer said no payment cards were compromised and that it has retained a forensics firm.
  • Mobeewave Inc., a specialist in contactless mobile payment card acceptance, announced its partnership with Idemia, a provider of augmented-identity technology, is expanding its scope to provide contactless acceptance across Australia. The partnership began in 2017.
  • Coates Group, a provider of digital merchandising technology, launched its K2 kiosk intended for retail, hospitality, and quick-service environments. The company says the machine can accept a range of payment devices.
  • Fee Navigator launched technology that helps merchants analyze their payment-processing statements.
  • Visa Inc. said 100 vendors and other partners have enrolled in Visa Ready for Transit, the network’s global program that provides transportation agencies with access to tech firms and consultants involved in contactless payments and other ticketing and fare-collection operations, and back-office management.
  • Web-design and app development firm Americaneagle.com said it has been hired to develop a new fare system for the Memphis Area Transit Authority.
  • Shift4 Payments LLC released a case study on integrated payments at Tanglewood Resort.
  • Point-of-sale terminal maker Advanced Mobile Payment Inc. said its portfolio of smart Android terminals incorporates point-to-point encryption from Bluefin Payment Systems.
