Kabbage Checking Debuts and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 6/15/21

  • American Express Co. said its Kabbage unit now offers Kabbage Checking to U.S. small businesses. AmEx also said it now offers Kabbage Funding to small businesses with lines of credit ranging from $1,000 to $150,000.
  • Global Payments Inc. has launched a point-of-sale application that operates on commercially-available, off-the-shelf mobile phones, reported The Paypers earlier this month. Apparently only available in Europe, the service, called GP tom, is available in the Google Play store for Android smart phones. Global Payments declined to comment. The app joins those provided by MagicCube Inc. and Mobeewave Inc., which Apple acquired in 2020, which have similar capabilities.
  • Data-analytics firm ThetaRay Ltd. said it is partnering with Google Cloud to offer banks, fintechs, and payment-service providers protection from money laundering in cross-border transactions.
  • Payments provider TransferMate Global Payments launched a cross-border payments service for sellers and buyers on the Alibaba platform.
  • Some 70% of U.S. consumers say they are ready to start traveling again, but 80% stress the importance of travel accommodations having strict hygiene protocols for Covid-19, according to a survey of 2,000 adults from Discover Financial Services.
  • InvoiceCloud Inc., a provider of online bill-payment services, is partnering with digital-technology provider Zensar Technologies Ltd. to offer digital payment services to the insurance and financial-services industries.
  • Some 53% of managers at federal, state, and local government agencies say account-takeover fraud has become more prevalent in the past two years, according to a survey from TransUnion.
  • Payments platform dLocal Ltd. said its new marketplace service has allowed non-domestic sellers on Amazon to make sales on the platform to buyers in Brazil.
