- The PC gaming platform Steam said it is ending its distribution of Steam gift cards at retail stores, adding it expects all merchants to reach out-of-stock status by year’s end. The move was prompted by gift card scams, the company said. Valve, the parent of Steam, said it launched gift cards in 2012 and added digital gift cards in 2017, which will continue to be available.
