Groupon Adds GasBuddy Offers and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 6/12/19

  • Groupon announced it will provide GasBuddy, a fuel-price reporting service, with food and drink offers from local merchants via card linking. Consumers will be able to load offers directly to an eligible payment card after completing an opt-in enrollment in the GasBuddy app.
  • POSaBIT, a fintech supplier to the legal cannabis industry, announced an expansion into Arizona. Currently, the company serves more than 120 dispensaries across six states.
  • Payment-services company Rapyd Ltd. said its 2019 “State of Cross-Border eCommerce: U.S. Merchant Outlook” report found that 91% of businesses prioritize cross-border sales, but many struggle to capitalize on them.
  • The Q2 Private Capital Access Index from Dun & Bradstreet and the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School found that 53% of businesses sought funding from business credit cards, followed by crowdfunding, 20%, online lenders, 29%, factoring, 16%, and merchant cash advances, 15%.
  • Mercator Advisory Group released its “ATM Banking: It’s Not Just About Cash Withdrawal Anymore” report that found that 94% of consumers are likely to use their own bank’s ATMs.
  • The United Kingdom’s Competition and Markets Authority has approved PayPal Holdings Inc.’s $2.2 billion acquisition of European point-of-sale payments provider iZettle, PayPal announced. The CMA had issued provisional approval of the deal at the end of April. PayPal closed on the deal in September.
  • The Accredited Standards Committee X9 Inc. issued a call for expert participation in three new projects, including creation of a new standard to protect data and report breaches.
  • On Track Innovations Ltd., a provider of payment technology based on near-field communication, announced its chief executive, Shlomo Cohen, will step down as CEO by the end of the year and will become chairman of the board. The company is seeking a new CEO.
  • Visa Inc. named Graham Macmillan head of the Visa Foundation, which provides financing and grants to support low-income and financially underserved micro and small businesses globally. Macmillan most recently was senior program officer for mission investments at the Ford Foundation and before that worked at Citigroup Inc.
