Global Payments Revenue Down 4% and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 10/29/20

  • Processor Global Payments Inc. reported adjusted net revenue of $1.746 billion for the third quarter, down 4% year-over-year on a combined basis. Global acquired processor TSYS Inc. last year.
  • FIS Inc. reported total third-quarter revenue for its merchant-processing unit of $1.02 billion, up 44% year-over-year. The lift comes chiefly from the acquisition of the big merchant processor Worldpay, which closed July 31 last year. As a whole, FIS reported revenue of $3.2 billion, up 13%, or 1% excluding acquisitions.
  • Alliance Data Systems Corp. said it will acquire Bread in a deal valued at $450 million. Bread provides buy now, pay later services to consumers via more than 400 merchants.
  • Commerce platform Shopify Inc. reported $767.4 million in third-quarter revenue, a 96% increase from $390.6 million in the year-ago quarter. Net income of $191.1 million reversed the $72.8 million loss last year. In the quarter, Shopify said U.S., Canadian, and U.K. merchants received $252.1 million in merchant cash advances and loans, a 78% increase from $141 million a year ago.
  • Payments technology provider Boom Commerce said it acquired Ovvi, formerly POSsible POS, which provides integrated point-of-sale hardware. Terms were not disclosed.
  • Point-of-sale terminal maker Ingenico Group S.A. is now part of Worldline S.A. following the closing of an $8.6 billion merger. Meanwhile, Ingenico reported $755.5 million (646 million euros) in third-quarter net revenue, a 9% decrease from a year ago.
  • Some 81% of businesses either often or very often contend with problems caused by bot attacks, while two-thirds say a single attack has cost them at least $100,000 in the past year, according to research from Kount Inc., a fraud-prevention firm.
  • American Express Co. pledged $1 billion to promote racial, ethnic, and gender equity for its employees, customers, and communities.
  • Extend Enterprises Inc., a digital card platform provider serving commercial card issuers, announced it has completed a redesign to increase ease of use and security.
  • Issuing platform Marqeta said cryptocurrency services provider Coinbase will use Marqeta for the upcoming Coinbase card in the United States.
  • Xendoo, an accounting and bookkeeping software provider, announced partnerships with Cogent Bank, MyCorporation, and Fattmerchant, which will provide payment processing services.
  • U.S.-based cross-border payments provider dLocal said it has added Kenya, Senegal, Ghana, and Cameroon to its network and has also added integration partners in Nigeria and Egypt.
