Eye on Restaurants: Torchy’s Tacos Taps CardFree, And GoTab Debuts a Contactless Ordering Kit

Mobile point-of-sale specialist CardFree Inc. announced Torchy’s Tacos, with 83 locations across seven states, has adopted its contactless ordering and services technology. Also, restaurant commerce provider GoTab Inc. debuted a contactless ordering starter kit for hospitality operators.

San Francisco-based CardFree says the Austin, Texas-based Torchy’s Tacos started with online ordering and on-premises contactless services. It is testing curbside pickup notifications to make it easier for customers. The chain is expected to add other features over the next few months, such as Order@Table for dine-in customers who want to make additions after placing their initial order. CardFree’s Text-to-Pay enables consumers to place phone orders and pay via mobile, which eliminates providing payment card data via voice.

“We have multiple ways that our guests can access Torchy’s—dine-in, mobile, online ordering as well as phone orders—and CardFree has a contactless solution for each consumer use case so we can meet the needs of our guests,” Scott Hudler, Torchy’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement.

In related news, Arlington, Va.-based GoTab released its “Contactless Ordering Starter Kit,” which includes the hardware and software to operate contactless dine-in, takeout, and delivery services. The $600 bundle includes a point-of-sale terminal, a PAX Technology payment device, POS software, access to payment processing, and customer support. The kit requires no contract or subscription, GoTab says.
