Eye on Acquiring: Kurv Launches a Merchant App; Lufthansa Adds Klarna as a Payment Option

Merchants processing with Kurv, which was known as Electronic Merchant Systems until November, have a new option and a new app. In related news, the airline Lufthansa Group is adding Klarna AB’s buy now, pay later options via a Klarna and Adyen NV integration.

Cleveland-based Kurv debuted a merchant app that also comes with a Tap to Pay on Android feature, enabling merchants to use off-the-shelf mobile devices as secure payment-acceptance tools. It launched Tap to Pay on iPhone in May.

Activating Tap to Pay on Android means merchants can use their phones to accept payments without extra hardware, such as a card reader dongle. Kurv also says the new app enables merchants to view campaign and account information and connect with its support staff.

Meanwhile, Lufthansa says U.S. travelers will be able to use Klarna’s BNPL options to pay for travel on the airline. They are able to use Klarna for installment payments, pay later, or pay in full, along with a variety of other payment options from other payments companies. Klarna says the service works via an integration with payment processor Adyen. Klarna also is available to Lufthansa travelers in nine European countries.

The rollout began in November in Lufthansa Group’s home markets and select other markets and eventually will extend across all of its brands by the end of the second quarter, Klarna says.
