Credit Card Use Dips 2% and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 12/7/20

  • Overall U.S. credit card use dipped 2% for the week ending Nov. 29 compared with the week ending Dec. 1, 2019, according to the Tracking Transaction Trends report from PSCU, a credit union service organization. Meanwhile, debit card use increased 4.9% for the same period. Regionally, the largest credit card drop was 8.3% in Hawaii. Debit card use increased the most in the Great Lakes region, by 7.9%.
  • Chargezoom LLC added a feature that enables businesses to surcharge credit cards instantly by detecting if the card can be surcharged with the rules and regulations for doing so. Surcharged transactions can be reconciled automatically within accounting software and changes to invoices can be recorded immediately.
  • By accelerating a trend toward digital interactions and away from branch visits, Covid-19 is hastening an ongoing erosion of consumer trust in banks, contends a report from Accenture.
  • Repay Holdings Corp. said it will provide payment processing services to members of the Strategic Regional Healthcare Organization, which represents more than 400 hospital and health-care systems.
  • Payments provider Worldline said an integration with PayMyTuition, which enables tuition payments for international students, now provides PayMyTuition’s more than 600 Canada-based educational clients with the ability to accept bank transfers across five continents.
  • Pay Theory Inc. debuted a payment processing platform for schools that enables it to integrate into tools schools already use.
  • Zytara, which plans early in 2021 to launch a mobile app that provides a wallet and debit card for gamers, appointed Andy Brown and Moritz Baier-Lentz to its board of directors. Brown is chief executive of Sand Hill East and a former UBS executive. Baier-Lentz is a partner at Bitkraft Ventures and a former Goldman Sachs executive.
