- JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Chase credit card unit and the Marriott International Inc. hotel chain introduced a contactless cobranded card, the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card, to replace the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus card.
- American Express Co. announced the rebranding of its current portfolio of cards for customers of Marriott International Inc.’s Starwood brands to two new consumer cards and a business credit card; the dual-interface cards are being launched in conjunction with Marriott’s conversion of its Marriott Rewards loyalty program to the new Marriott Bonvoy program.
- Cohesity, a data-storage company, said it has developed a new capability for its Cohesity Data Storage Platform that can detect, prevent, and respond to ransomware attacks.
- Processor Total System Services Inc. (TSYS) said customer insights from TruRating, a customer-data provider that works with the retail and hospitality industries, are now available to merchants using TSYS’s Genius platform via an online dashboard and mobile app. Genius was developed by merchant processor Cayan LLC, which TSYS acquired in January 2018 for $1.05 billion.
- Visa Inc. recommended shareholders reject a so-called mini-tender offer from TRC Capital Corp. for up to 1 million shares of Visa’s Class A common stock, or approximately 0.057% of the card network’s outstanding shares. TRC’s $131.95 offer price is 4.43% below the shares’ closing price on Jan. 11, the last trading day before the offer date.
- Cryptocurrency point-of-sale provider Anypay said consumers now can buy gift cards at eGifter.com with the Dash cryptocurrency using text messages. EGifter.com integrated Anypay’s POS software to accept Dash.
- Synchrony Financial said it has extended its agreement with Walmart Inc.’s Sam’s Club warehouse-store chain to support Sam’s Club credit cards. Sam’s Club operates 600 stores.
- Shopify Inc., which provides a platform allowing small and mid-size merchants to sell products and collect payment, introduced Shopify Studios to develop, produce, and finance documentaries about entrepreneurship.
- XTM Inc., a Canada-based card issuer and payments company, launched its Today Card in conjunction with its Instant Merchant Settlement for small and mid-size businesses.
- PIN-on-mobile specialist MyPINPad Ltd. named Nigel Dean head of marketing. Dean previously held senior positions at Thales, Racal, and Spire Payments.
