Century Business Solutions Debuts Agent Program and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 7/5/18

  • In a finding that resolves differing decisions by lower courts, the United Kingdom Court of Appeal ruled in favor of retailers challenging interchange fees set by Visa Inc. and Mastercard Inc. as anti-competitive, Bloomberg reported. The case, however, now goes to a tribunal that reviews business-competition disputes.
  • Payments provider Century Business Solutions announced a new program for independent merchant salespeople.
  • In an evaluation of mobile-payment apps, technology site TechRadar ranked Apple Pay first, followed by Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, and Samsung Pay, in that order.
  • Imaging technology provider Mitek Systems Inc. said the new, Netherlands-based cryptocurrency trading platform DXE will use Mitek’s Mobile Verify product for automated customer identity verification in order to comply with new European Union anti-money laundering rules.
  • Wire-transfer provider The Western Union Co. said that under an expanded international service, customers of Russia’s Post Bank can use the bank’s mobile app to send Western Union money transfers directly into bank accounts in more than 50 countries.
  • Approximately 2.3 billion chip cards shipped globally in 2017, the Smart Payment Association announced. That represented a 4% growth rate, the SPA said.
  • Payments provider Paysafe Group Ltd., which has major U.S. operations, extended its Skrill Send Direct money-transfer service to nine more countries, including India, bringing the service’s availability to 45 nations in all.
  • Some 608,400 Chinese students are studying abroad, making China the largest source of international students, according to the country’s Ministry of Education. In response, the payment network UnionPay said its cards are now accepted at approximately 4,000 educational institutions outside mainland China.
