Bolt To Acquire Wyre and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/7/22

  • The commerce platform Bolt has agreed to acquire the cryptocurrency provider Wyre to enable consumers to spend crypto at Bolt merchants, which will receive fiat currency. Terms of the deal, which is expected to close before year’s end, were not disclosed.
  • In related news, payments platform Nium said it has partnered with cryptocurrency specialist BitPay to allow businesses to accept Bitcoin and Ethereum, with settlement the next day in fiat currency. The parties expect to introduce more cryptocurrencies to the service next year.
  • BitPay also announced its payments platform now supports Bitcoin Lightning Network transactions, allowing merchants to accept payments from Lightning-enabled wallets, including CashApp and Strike. Fees on the Lightning network are said to be significantly lower for crypto users than is the case through other networks.
  • In-store and online spending grew 8.4% in March compared to March last year and was up 18% over March 2019, according to the latest Mastercard SpendingPulse report.
  • Payments-technology provider SpotOn said it has agreed to provide contactless payments and other digital services to the Arizona Diamondbacks at their stadium. The company says it is now processing for more than half of the Major League Baseball ballparks.
  • Payments provider Paysafe Ltd. said it has expanded its support for gaming company betParx’s mobile apps from Michigan to include Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
  • Payments provider BlueSnap unveiled its Embedded Payments and Payfac-as-a-Service products, which are aimed at speeding development time for software companies looking to expand payment capabilities.
  • The digital tipping service Tippy, which serves salons and spas, has integrated technology from Branch, a provider of workforce payments platforms, to allow tips to flow more smoothly from consumer to service provider.
