BMO’s PaySmart Launches and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 10/9/24

  • Canada-based BMO Financial Group launched PaySmart in the U.S. market. PaySmart is a credit card feature that lets users divide transactions of $100 or more into installments over three, six, or 12 months at a monthly fee.
  • Travel payments network UATP has added buy now, pay later platform Floa as another installment payment option. It is expected to go live in the fourth quarter.
  • Cantaloupe Inc., a payments processor for vending and other self-service applications, launched its AdVantage program, which offers brands the ability to show digital advertising on touchscreens controlled by Cantaloupe in the U.S. and Canada. The first user is Mastercard, which is deploying the technology to support its Priceless Planet Coalition.
  • Mastercard Inc. announced South Africa will be the first country to adopt a platform enabling instant payouts to merchants on card payments. Mastercard, which is working with ACI Worldwide Inc. on the project, says the new system will support acquiring banks in that country in processing real-time card transactions.
  • Research firm Earnest Analytics released its Earnest Analytics Spend Index, which tracks consumer spending across 89 merchant category codes.
  • The Identity Theft Resource Center released its third-quarter 2024 report that found 672 publicly reported data compromises in the quarter, an 8% decrease from 732 year-over-year.
  • Florida-based technology firm Aleph said it has acquired a controlling interest in Localpayment, a payment service provider based in Argentina.
  • Car IQ Inc., a specialist in payments for trucking fleets, unveiled an integration with Love’s, operator of more than 580 travel stops in 42 states.
  • Investment banking advisory firm Wellesley Hills Financial said it is the exclusive advisor to BlockChyp in its acquisition by Stax Payments.
  • Subscription management platform Recurly Inc. named Priya Lakshminarayanan its chief product officer. She most recently was with Brex, a spend management platform as vice president of product management and customer journey.
